Future Implications The performance indicators correspond- ing to the critical competencies in chil- dren’s environmental health are versatile tools designed to be used in both formal and informal training of professionals in this field. In formal training settings, such as in public health-accredited graduate programs, faculty can use the competen- cies and performance indicators to develop comprehensive courses or modules within courses. In more informal settings, health organizations can enhance and improve their training materials by aligning with the
competencies proposed for children’s envi- ronmental health professionals. For employers, the competencies and per- formance indicators can be used in develop- ing job descriptions and evaluating on-the-job performance. Moreover, organizations such as the National Environmental Health Associa- tion can consider adopting these performance indicators to facilitate the development of certi- fication programs for children’s environmental health specialists. This holistic approach will ensure that these indicators serve as valuable tools that will contribute to the advancement of expertise in children’s environmental health.
