ADVANCEMENT OF THE PRACTITIONER

SPOTLIGHT ON NEHA RESOURCES: SUPPORTING YOUR CREDENTIAL JOURNEY

A new year for many means making resolutions to better oneself. These resolutions could range from eating healthier and taking up a new hobby to learning a new skill or furthering their education. If you work in environmental public health or food safety, perhaps this year is the one where you pursue a credential with us to dem- onstrate your expertise and dedication to ensuring the health and safety of your communities. The Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sani- tarian (REHS/RS) is our most predominant credential. Professionals who hold this credential demonstrate competency in an impressive range of environmental health topics including vector control, water quality, hazardous materials, air quality, the built environment, emergency readiness, and community education. REHS/RS creden- tial holders are also key to ensuring communities comply with local, state, and federal environmental health regulations. The Certified Profession–Food Safety (CP-FS) credential is for individuals who hold food safety positions within their agency, organization, or business. These positions include quality assur- ance and quality control managers, facility managers, food-safe chemical suppliers, and more traditional food safety positions such as regulatory inspectors and investigators. CP-FS holders can con- duct facility plan reviews, evaluate hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) plans or other risk-based food safety programs, understand the causes and prevention of foodborne illnesses, and analyze and implement sanitation standard operating procedures for safety and e†ectiveness. If you are thinking about earning your credential this year, we have several resources that can help you on this worthwhile and noble journey!
